Northeast Portland is made up of numerous unique and independent neighborhoods and retail trade areas.
The Lloyd District initially put northeast Portland on the retail map and includes Oregon's largest mall, Lloyd Center Mall, and the Oregon Convention Center, which just expanded to double its original size (hosting 650,000 visitors per year). The Rose Quarter is another major destination and home to the Portland Trailblazers, as well as numerous concerts and other events year round. Also part of the Lloyd District is NE Broadway, featuring numerous boutiques and restaurants between 7th and 33rd Avenues.
Just north of the Lloyd District is Fremont Street, with Wild Oats, Hollywood Video and Starbucks at 15th and, further east, Beaumont Village neighborhood, which has numerous local boutiques, cafés and restaurants.
Alberta Street runs north of and parallel to Fremont. This is an area that has undergone dramatic changes in the past few years and is now attracting the attention of local and regional retailers looking to locate in this diverse and dense housing area. For some time the area has become known for its arts and culture scene, particularly with "Last Thursday" art walks the last Thursday of each month.
Running south/north through NE Portland is MLK Boulevard, which has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and has several mixed-use projects in development.
West of MLK is the Mississippi neighborhood, a hidden jewel in a previously ignored area. The area now has several upscale restaurants and boutiques and more development is in the planning stages.
Furthest north is St. Johns, also very diverse and dense. This is another area that has undergone extensive renovation in the past few years and continues to change and grow.
