Besides the Downtown core, close-in southwest Portland is comprised of numerous established neighborhoods. John's Landing is a long established retail area adjacent to the Willamette River and surrounded by dense neighborhoods and service-oriented retail. Marquam Hill is home to Oregon Health Sciences University, and will be connected to South Waterfront by the aerial tram by early fall of 2006. Nearly 40 acres in the North Macadam/South Waterfront neighborhood is currently under development and will significantly contribute to Portland's retail, restaurant, housing growth. Multnomah Village has a quaint European feel and is noted for its antique shops and other local boutiques and long-established restaurants including Marco’s Café and Fat City. Hillsdale and Raleigh Hills are neighboring communities serving the populated areas around them. Each area has its share of successful local and regional boutiques and restaurants as well as national grocery tenants to serve those living around them.
