Downtown Portland boasts over 700 retailers and restaurateurs and features a variety of cultural events attracting locals and tourist alike. Nearly 29 hotels and over 4,200 hotel rooms host visitors year-around looking for sales-tax-free shopping and dining. Downtown is also a major employment center for the region, with nearly 83,000 employees working daily in the Central City making it one of Portland’s strongest daytime populations. SW Broadway runs southbound thru downtown Portland, and is home to the cultural, civic and major retail attractions. Pioneer Place shopping center anchors downtown and is home to national retailers such as: Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Banana Republic, The Gap & Tiffany’s. The southern end is currently experiencing explosive housing growth as several apartment projects are being converted to condominiums, which will create a vibrant nighttime population that is currently lacking.
