Neighborhood Description: Downtown Portland’s vibrant cultural district welcomes theatre, opera, symphony, museum and cinema enthusiasts from around the globe. Notable attractions include Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Portland Center for Performing Arts, Oregon Historical Society, and the Portland Art Museum. The north Park Blocks run north / south throughout the district, with the University District to the south and the retail core to the north. SW Broadway to the East serves as the major cultural arterial with landmark theatre entrances and classic historic marquee illuminated signage. Beginning in the late spring through early fall the Portland Farmers’ Market, a major area attraction that is located in the Cultural District’s south Park Blocks.

Transportation: Due to the current construction on Naito Parkway, the main thoroughfares for this district are: Jefferson Street (one way west bound), Columbia Street (one way east bound), 3rd Avenue (one way south bound) and 4th Avenue (one way north bound). Traffic is heavy on these streets during weekday business hours. With the current housing developments in this area, weekend traffic will also pick up in the next few years. Due to the close proximity of businesses, retail, parks and restaurants, foot and bicycle traffic is also heavy on weekdays. I-5, I-405, and US 26 are easily accessible from this area, as well as crossing the Willamette River to the eastside of town via the Hawthorne Bridge. Tri-Met bus and the Streetcar line serve this neighborhood. Parking is a mixture of on street, flat parking open-air parking lots, and short term parking garages, including Smart Park located at First and Jefferson streets.
